1958 Iraq–Jordan Arab Federation / Arab Union — Pair of Bradbury Wilkinson Unadopted Essays, Ex-Najjar Collection

SKU: 9090 Category:

Description

A rare pair of Bradbury Wilkinson essays prepared in 1958 for a proposed joint Iraq–Jordan postage issue depicting King Hussein and King Faisal II. Work on the issue was underway, but before denominations were assigned or printing authorized, the July 1958 revolution in Iraq and the assassination of Faisal II brought the federation—and the stamp project—to an abrupt end. The surviving essays, one reading “Arab Federation” and the other “Arab Union,” preserve a design process interrupted mid-course. Illustrated in Abed Habib Najjar’s The Stamps of Jordan 1920–1965 (1998). Material from this abandoned issue is rarely encountered.
